Most of the wedding cakes shown here are frosted with buttercream, though many are decorated with both fondant and buttercream. If you dislike fondant, it is possible to enjoy a very smooth, upscale design without the cost, heaviness, and taste of fondant base icing. The seven-tier lavender cake in the first position is ALL buttercream with no fondant anywhere on the cake. The second cake is the opposite -- all fondant and gumpaste with no buttercream. The third cake is a combination of buttercream icing with all fondant decorations. On the fourth cake, only the black ribbons are fondant. Some decorating techniques do require fondant in order to support the design. We can advise you about this at the consultation when we know more about your design preferences.
